Through the Mayor’s Shining Scholars Awards, you have the opportunity to nominate high-school students from public, private, and charter schools throughout Miami-Dade County who have displayed extraordinary perseverance throughout their academic careers.
About the Awards
Each month, three students will be selected for one of three awards:
- The Pursuer of Excellence,
- The Unstoppable Scholar, and
- The Emerging Leader.
The selected students will be spotlighted in the Mayor’s Shining Scholars’ “Hall of Stars” and recognized at a Board of County Commissioners meeting, where they will receive their awards.
The Pursuer of Excellence Award
Criteria: This award will be given to a well-rounded student who, throughout their academic career, has exhibited an extraordinary eagerness to improve themselves academically, professionally, and/or civically in order to achieve more.
The Unstoppable Scholar Award
Criteria: This award will be given to a student who has displayed extraordinary perseverance in moving forward in their academic career.
The Emerging Leader Award
Criteria: This award will be given to a student who has inspired positive change in others and the community.

Our Mission
From a community-wide perspective, it is vital that we have an educated workforce to lead our 2.6 million residents towards the prosperous future that we all seek for Miami-Dade County. As community leaders, we have a responsibility to guide our young people to realizing their full potential and to celebrate their achievements along the way.
